XFL Week 1 Recap/Week 2 Preview

Week 1 Recap

This week we take a look back at the beginning of the inaugural season of the XFL. Week 1 of the XFL included four games, with two played on Saturday followed by two more on Sunday. The weekly game kickoff schedule for the XFL is as such. Saturday begins with a game at 12 pm MST, followed by a game which begins at 3 pm MST. Sunday will usually begin with a game at 1 pm MST, followed by the final game of the week at 4 pm (Note that as the season progresses, the Sunday kickoff times move but are always in the afternoon, three hours apart).

It all began in our nation’s capital on Saturday as the DC Defenders hosted the Seattle Dragons. The Defenders lived up to their name by protecting their home turf in a 31 to 19 win. The following game was between the LA Wildcats and the Houston Roughnecks, which took place in Houston, Texas. The home team again won out in this match-up as the Roughnecks beat the Wildcats by a score of 37 to 17. Sunday began with a game between the New York Guardians hosting the Tampa Bay Vipers, in Metlife Stadium located in New Jersey just 8 miles from New York City. Metlife Stadium is now home turf for three professional football teams, those being the NFL’s New York Giants and Jets, as well as the Guardians. The Guardians won that game by a score of 23 to 3. The final game of week 1, was between the the Dallas Renegades and the St. Louis BattleHawks, in Texas. The Renegades had the unfortunate fate of becoming the first team to lose at home in the XFL as they fell to the BattleHawks by a score of 15 to 9.

Week 2 Preview

Week 2 of the XFL 2020 season appears to be ready to be intriguing as well. An interesting thing about the match-ups this weekend is that each team which already has a win will be playing another team who won in week 1. While the teams who did not manage to get the “W” last weekend will have a chance to play another team in the same situation. It is thanks to chance that this is the case, and therefore this should hopefully help this league’s inaugural season stay competitive with parody.

Player Spotlight Week 1

Lastly, a quick shoutout to Houston Roughnecks QB PJ Walker who was named the “Star of the Week.” PJ Walker completed 23 of 39 passes for 272 yards with four touchdowns, one interception and a two-point conversion pass in the Roughnecks' 37-17 win over the Wildcats on Saturday. He also rushed four times for 26 yards and a two-point conversion.
